| Napoleon was exiled to Elba, but lasted only one year until ambition drove him away from the pretty isle. If you've been here you can see what might have enticed him to stay. One million tourists come here every year for the blue waters, beaches and fine food. Avoid August and you will miss most of them. There are fantastic walks, great campsites, well equipped hotels and pleasant towns. To reach Elba take a ferry from Piombino or from Livorno by the Isle of Capraia. |
