La Befana

"Befana" is a kindly witch who gives gifts to children much like Santa Claus - toys and candy for the good ones but coal or a pebble for the naughty ones.
Festivities begin on January 5 evening when Befana comes down the chimney on her broom and leaves the gifts. The celebrations continue throughout the next day.
