ROME: WHERE TO SLEEP

Go Back to
Rome Summary
Rome
has numerous options for travellers of all ages and
budgets. We have specified these below. Feel free
to contact us for additional or more specific advice
- italy@backpackglobe.com
HOSTELS
Most of the hostels are situated a short walking distance from Stazione Termini
area along the streets of Via Solferino, Via Gaeta, Via Palestro, Via Magenta,
Via Marghera and Via Vicenza etc (exit from the right hand side of Termini
with the tracks behind you). If you exit from the other end there are also
some options. There are also a few hostel options grouped around the Vatican
if you want to be near that side of town.
Please consult our booking
engine on the left hand side of every page to search for reviews and specific
options or email us for advice.
On average you would expect to pay about 18-20 Euro for a dorm bed in Rome
and for most of them it will include breakfast with the cost. Many of the Roman
hostels also provide single sex or segragated dorms for additional privacy.
You can also get private rooms for up to 30-40 Euro depending if the bathroom
is inside or not. A lot of the Roman hostels also do special dinner nights
like pizza or pasta for the cost of a drink at the bar.
Please note that the reception area for the hostel may not actually be the
same entrance for access to the rooms. A lot of establishments purchase apartments
in a street in different buildings. It may appear a little dodgy but it's just
the way things are done.
HOTELS
A lot of the budget hotels are situated by the hostels in the above mentioned
streets and this is a good place to base for touring around Rome. Again please
consult our booking engine or email us for advice.
Bookhostels (our
partner)
ITWG (our
partner)
Depending on what star of hotel you choose to book at you can expect to pay
anything from Euro 40-50 per room and up. Do some scouting and you may find
some good budget options online. Don't be afraid to try the private room options
in the hostels as they offer a lot of privacy and good services.
BED AND BREAKFASTS
Again we hope you will first consult our booking
engine for options.

CONVENTS AND RELIGIOUS INSTITUTES
For solo female travellers or those religiously or quietly inclined the various
convents in Rome offer a good range of accomodation options. Please note that
many of the convents have curfews at night for return times. Most start from
Euro 40 per night for singles. We do not make bookings for convents on our
site but you can visit some of the following websites for contact details:

CAMPING GROUNDS
Options for camping in Rome are usually a little out of the city centre. We
do list some of these on our booking
engine which you can check for reviews. However you may also find the following
sites useful in your plans for camping in Rome:

APARTMENTS
You do not need to be staying a long time in Rome to find these affordable.
A lot of agents and individual operators will rent these
out for short term periods, per week or even per night. If you have a group
of people, or are a family or a couple wanting extreme privacy and the facilities
to cook your own food; this will suit you best. For groups or families it may
also work out cheaper than staying in a hotel or hostel (particularly if you
cook your own food).
