SPECIALITY FOOD
Pasta con le sarde (past with sardines, fennel, capers and pine nuts). Swordfish Granita - icy lemon or cold tea drinks served at the side of the road. Sea food.

RESTAURANTS
Trattoria Il Veliero
Via Torretta 31. All you can eat fish, wine and drinks for a fixed price.
At Sferracavallo - Trattoria dei Vespri
Piazza Santa Croce dei Vespri off Via Roma Outdoor tables and great food.

CAFFES
As with the rest of Italy caffes are a quick stop for all Italians for coffee and dolce (sweets) or panini (sandwhiches).
In Palermo a favourite quick snack food are balls of rice cooked in batter and mozzarella cheese.

FAST FOOD
Italian fast food is usually found at caffes. There is a McDonalds near the main train station.

MARKETS

Vucciria
streets between Via Roma, Piazza San Domenico and Via Vittorio Emanuele. These open air markets are held daily (not Sunday).Here fishmonger stands have piles of swordfish and sea urchins. Other vibrant street markets with food and secondhand-junk stalls are in Ballar (centered on Piazza Carmine, Piazza Casa Professa, and Piazza S. Chiara). Cheap clothing and CDs are in Capo (lining Via Bandiera/Via S. Agostino). Cheap food stalls are on Via P. Carini/Via B. Paoli, of Via Volturno).
