NAPLES

Napoli has been colourfully
described by many. Goethe said a person who has seen
Naples can never be sad. An 1884 guide book said it
was ill-built, ill-paved, ill-lighted, ill-watched,
ill-governed and ill-ventilated. We will leave the traveller
to make up their own mind about Italy’s third
largest city. But we like it. It’s a fascinating
concoction of warren like streets, markets, beeping
scooters, traffic, flapping laundry and heat. It might
be grubby, crumbling, raucous and polluted at times
but the people can be very friendly, there are lovely
parks and beaches you can use as havens to escape the
noise and plenty of action to check out everywhere.
