LOMBARDY LAKES: WHERE TO SLEEP

Go Back to Lombardy Lakes Summary

The Lombardy lakes may be home to the elite from Milan on the weekends and full of resorts and hotels but there are also other options for camping, hostelling, bed and breakfasts and even rifugio's. If you're coming in the season time make sure you book well ahead especially on weekends.

BOOKING YOUR ACCOMODATION
We list a number of accomodation options on our online reservation system and hope you check the options here first. Otherwise you can contact the individual tourist offices listed on our general info page for the Lombardy Lakes for a complete list of accomodation offered.

If you need specific advise feel free to contact us on italy@backpackglobe.com. You may also be interested in our travel consultancy services.

CAMPING
There are 40 camp sites on the shores of Lake Maggiore. Contact the IAT office in Stresa for a list - IAT office, Piazza Marconi 16 (near the Navigazione Lago Maggiore ticket office), open daily 10am-12.30pm and 3.00pm-6.30pm, tel. 0323 30150, fax. 0323 31308, proloco.stresa@libero.it
There are also a number of camp sites along the coast north of Orta San Giulio and some more inland. There are also camp sites in Como, contact the APT office in Como for all the details. APT, Piazza Cavour 17, open 9am-1pm and 2.30pm-6pm Mon-Sat, tel. 031 3300111 or 031 269712, fax. 031 230452. www.lakecomo.com
Sirmione has a camp site and Riva del Garda on Lago di Garda. Monte Isola on Lago d'Iseo has several camping grounds.

HOSTELS
There are only a few hostels in the Lombardy Lakes, three around Lake Como (Menaggio, Domaso and Como) and one at Lago di Garda (Riva del Garda). We advise you do book ahead.

BED AND BREAKFASTS
Bed and Breakfasts are a feature of the small towns in the Lake area and are often run by families that can give you more of an opportunity to get to know locals.

RIFUGIO'S
For the uninitiated rifugio's are remote huts in the mountains that you pass on marked trails that are open (in season) to hikers and walkers for shelter, rest or to pass the night. Contact the APT offices particularly in Brescia and Gardone for details.

HOTELS
There are a selection of hotels in all the towns for all budgets. Choosing a central location for exploration of all the lakes might be a good choice or alternatively if you want something more romantic you might choose a more remote location for peace and quiet. For example of the Pescatori Island on Lake Maggiore is an idyllic hotel with rooms overlooking the water. Or you could stay at a smaller town like Orta San Giulio and still access Lago d'Orta or Lago di Maggiore but you would need a vehicle.

RESORTS
If you want to splash out or have a royal budget there are plenty of options to do so with luxurious hotels and villa's available on and around all the lakes.
