Verbania
The lakeside bars can be very touristy. To try something different head up the hill away from the area.
Bottinelli, Via Rutga 16, is a comfortable pasticcria.

Cannobio
There are a number of supermarkets in Via Marconi, the main street of town.

Ostera La Streccia, is in a narrow alley off the lake front. It has a rustic setting and good food. Closed Tuesdays.

Birreria Scurrone, Vicolo Scurrone, draught beer and snacks.




LAGO D'ORTA
Orta San Giulio

Il Buongustaio, Piazza Ragazzoni 8-10.
The specialty here is pane di san giulio which is bread with orange peel, raisins and walnuts.

This place also doubles as an internet cafe.

Venus, gelaterie, Piazza Motta.

Antico Agnello, Via Olina 18, tel. 0322 90259, closed Tuesday.
Has Lombard dishes, puddings and good service.





LAGO DI COMO
Como

There are a wide variety of places to eat at in Como but it's not always cheap. You can also get a bit of international spice with restaurants featuring not just Italian but Spanish, Mexican and Greek cuisine.

Here's a few ideas:
Caffe Greco, Piazza Mazzini 13, tel. 031 271074 for panini's and fast food.
Taverna Spagnola, Via Grassi 8, tel. 031 272460 for paella and Italian dishes.
Taverna Messicana, Piazza Mazzini 6, tel. 031 266204, for steaks and other meats.
The Gran Mercato on Via Mentana 15 is opposite the bus station and ideal for those wanting to cook up their own feast or on a budget.

Menaggio
There are several big supermarkets on the main road through town.

Vecchia Varenna, Near the lakeside promenade (closed Monday)

Sirmione

Takaway food outlets are situated around Piazza Carducci. Most restaurants are also in this area.

Desenzano del Garda
The lakefront is busy with bars and cafes.

Gardone Riviera
The waterfront is the main hub for eating and dining. Bar Milano is a popular spot, Lungolago d'Annunzio 18. Tel. 0365 21519. If you want to escape from the noise and crowds try:

Riva del Garda
Numerous eateries and cafes and gelateria's feature throughout the resort town.

Bella Napoli, Via Arnmandi Diaz 29, tel. 0464 552139. Serves excellent wood pizzas and first and second Italian courses.
