ISLE OF ISCHIA: EATING

Go Back to Ischia Summary

In Italy people generally eat around 8pm so you may not find restaurants open until this time. E-mail us with your favourite eating or drinking place at italy@backpackglobe.com

SPECIALTY FOOD
Ischia’s cuisine has dishes prepared with regional and island products. With an economy based on fishing and agriculture you can expect some hearty meals. Here are some of the specialities to look out for:
Pane sotto e fasule - stale bread softened with sauce made from cooking beans.
Pesce all'acqua pazza - anchovies, sardines and mackerel cooked with garlic, chili peper and parsley.
Coniglio all'ischitana - rabbit bred in a ditch and cooked in white wine, garlic, cherry tomatoes and chilli pepper.
Honey - especialy from near Forio. Made by hand by the island's bee keepers.

Keep an eye out for local products like lemons, oregano and capers in the shops.
